A few weeks ago, I wrote a post on bridal prep and how we LOVE using natural light, even if the light source is only one window. What do we do if the bridal suite doesn't have a window or if it is a little cramped, or there are still lots of girls getting their hair and makeup done? In addition to capturing iconic, natural, and candid moments of you, we also want you to feel relaxed, and joyful so that you can enjoy getting ready.
If the room is gorgeous but there aren't any windows, sometimes we introduce flash, but if there is another option, we take it! So what do we do to create authentic moments in the situation possible? We take you OUT of the bridal suite where there is natural light, a calm atmosphere and a clean backdrop. But don't worry, it won't be somewhere that feels unnatural and you won't be naked in public. We might take you out onto the balcony once you are mostly dressed or into another private room near the bridal suite that still looks and feels natural to the setting of your wedding. Then we stand back and let it all happen.
Balconies can be beautiful when the light and weather are right. The bonus is that if your room has a balcony, it usually overlooks beautiful scenery that you can look out on as you prepare.
If you are getting ready at your venue and not a hotel, there is often a private room near the bridal suite that is perfect for getting ready portraits. We bring you and your girls there and then let you prepare for your big day.
I think part of our job as wedding photographers, is to use our experience to make your wedding day easier and to capture moments in the most beautiful way possible. Sometimes, that means little suggestions from us that make a big difference in the way your images will look, like helping you find the best spot to put on your gown!
